PROFILE STEEL / STEEL GIRDERS

Steel girders are static girders made from rolled steel profiles (IPE, HEA and HEB profiles). Today, larger girders are made from welded profiles. Riveted girders were commonplace during the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century.

Profile steel girders

Girders normally lie horizontally, sometimes diagonally, and – in contrast to supports – are subject to bending stress.
They lie on so-called bearings and transfer load stress (ceilings, walls) to the bearings. Deflection is calculated on the basis of the beam theory.
The steel grade used depends on the demands made on strength.
Steel girders are combinable with other steel elements and also with concrete.
